In 1983, Ron Wilcox purchased a Bobsy SR-6 for competition in the Sports Car Club of
Americas C Sports Racing (CSR) class. With his two sons Russ, 10, and Dave, 8, in
tow, Ron cut his teeth on tracks throughout the Midwest Division including several now
historic courses such as Lake Afton, Ponca City, Hutchinson Sunflower, and Mid America
Raceway.
As Ron was gaining experience and recognition, his #70 racer was making headlines
winning races. Also capturing attention was Rons newest project, a March 80A
converted to CSR specifications. Always a crowd pleaser, his Hoosier tire bearing blue and
white racer became quickly known and admired for its speed and appearance and proved to be
one of the most successful cars ever campaigned by the Falcon team. After seven years in
the March CSR and a brief transition period in a Ralt RT-4, the team switched to the
current Swift DB-4 to compete in the rapid open wheel Formula Atlantic class.
Although the classes and styles may have changed, the number 70 has remained a trademark
in the Falcon stable.
From the very beginning, horsepower has been supplied by race
car designer and engine builder Don Preston. Well known for his National Champion GT-2,
GT-3, and GT-5 customer cars, Dons expertise on the Toyota and Cosworth race engines
has given the team the reliability and go-power to stay at the front.
Today, the growing Falcon Motorsports team
consists of a father/son driving team, Crew Chief, Marketing Director, and Director of
Creative Services. In 2001, the team focus changed as emphasis was shifted to 25 year old
Dave Wilcox and a quest to join the ranks of professional road racing.
