Ron Wilcox, a graduate
engineer and retired Air Force Officer, Air National Guardsman and F-16 fighter pilot
began racing in 1983 in the Sports Car Club of America's National Championship Road
Racing, C Sports Racing class. After four years racing a Ford Cosworth powered Bobsy SR-6,
he engineered his own conversion of a March 80A Formula Atlantic chassis to CSR
specifications. Also sporting Cosworth power, the upgrade proved to be a significant
improvement and contributed to his increasing dominance of CSR in the Midwest Division. On
the national scene, he was a perennial contender at the National Championship Runoffs, the
season-end invitational event for the top drivers across the country to determine the
National Champion in each class. In 1995, Ron purchased a Swift DB-4 Formula Atlantic
racer, stepping up in SCCA's fastest form of amateur racing and the premier open wheel
class, FA. In the new
class, he captured
first and second place finishes in his first outing. Over the years, Ron has been a
dominant force in the Midwest with many victories and titles. The following is an overview
of his successful racing career.
