GTOS

Youve probably all heard of the term GTO, which stands for Gas, Tires and Oil.
Thats those perfect weekends when you go to the track and only have to touch the car
between sessions for standard maintenance. Thats basically the weekend that we had
with the addition of one letter to the acronym; S for Starters. I think we must have
changed the starter three times because it would lock up and not engage. Other than that,
though, we cannot complain about the weekend at all. The weather was hot, but clear and it
was a clean sweep for Falcon Motorsports on both Saturday and Sunday.
David started Saturdays qualifying session in order to get reacquainted with the
track prior to qualifying on Sunday. He was to complete six laps and come in for a quick
driver change so that Ron could qualify for Saturdays regional race. However, with
the wind blowing hard down the front straight, the engine cover began to blow off and
David came in after two laps for a quick tape job and early driver change. It didnt
take Ron long to get back in the saddle. Although Ron was debatably the fastest car on the
track, timing and scoring had him quick enough to qualify on the outside of row one.
Problems with the pole sitter, Jim Wrights car, gave Ron the primary spot heading
into the first turn in Saturdays race. Although Steve Williams new Swift 008.A was
quick on the start, Ron managed to hold his position through turn one. It wasnt long
before Ron was able to open up a gap between him and Williams, one he was able to maintain
through the remainder of the race giving him a flag to flag victory.
Sundays qualifying session went smoothly with David outqualifying his opponents by a
.8 second margin. Jim Wright qualified on the outside of row one with Steve Williams
positioned behind David on the inside of row two. After a botched start causing an extra
lap of warm-up, the field got a clean start with David leading into the first turn. He led
for two laps before Jim was able to get a run out of turn seven and pass David into the
chicane. Jim continued to lead laps three through ten with David pressing hard on his
tail. Then on the eleventh lap, David forced Wright into a mistake going into the chicane.
Jim got too hot into the turn causing a spin costing him the lead and about ten seconds.
David continued to lead the remainder of the eight laps with Wright in hot persuit. Wright
was not able to close the gap allowing David to take the checkered flag and another
National win.
So far Falcon Motorsports is four for four and we would like to thank our sponsors for
making it possible. The Toyota motor has proven to be strong and dependable and the
Hoosier tires have worked flawlessly. Likewise, NetVisions support of the team and the
website is always most appreciated. Bringing coverage of our events to our fans would not
be possible without them. See you in July at the race in Hallett, Oklahoma where
well be looking to increase our standings.
